Girl, 2, suffers serious head injury after brick is thrown through taxi window

The child was taken to hospital and required stitches following the attack in the West Midlands

Shock: A two-year-old suffered a serious head injury in the attack Shock: A two-year-old suffered a serious head injury in the attack

A two-year-old girl needed hospital treatment after suffering a serious head injury when a brick was thrown through a taxi window.

The child and her mother were in a cab at around 9.30pm in Wednesbury, the West Midlands, when there was a loud smash.

The little girl began to cry and her 26-year-old mother discovered she had suffered a deep gash to the back of her head and was bleeding heavily.

The taxi driver pulled over and discovered part of a house brick had been through through the rear window which had shattered.

The child was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital where she needed stitches and was kept in for observation.

The attack happened on Tuesday, October 8.

Detective Constable Debbie Hickinbottom said: "Fortunately the child was not permanently harmed and she has made a speedy recovery. However the incident has left her mother deeply shaken.

"We are checking local buildings for CCTV, but meanwhile we are hoping that a member of the public may have witnessed something which will lead us to the culprit."

here we go again there is always a spate of these attacks somewhere in the UK IIRC there was a gang doing this in Peterborough a few years ago I believe a dozen taxis and nearly a hundred vehicles in total were damaged before the police took any serious action against them

And this poor little girl will possibly suffer from the affects of this for the rest of her life from this trauma

We had it on a road here, every single night a gang would throw stones at passing vehicles (mainly taxis though). Despite being given names and addresses and on a couple of occasions the culprits being apprehended, the police said they could do nothing as they hadn't witnessed the event themselves (?????).

Eventually it ended in a couple of plain clothes officers in an unmarked car driving up and down the road (no result) and finally the officers borrowing a taxi (which did get bricked) before any arrests were made.

This only happened after lots of complaints to the police, constant harassing by the taxi firms and press publicity - but the deciding factor was probably when the windscreen of a double decker bus full of passengers was smashed and the driver injured.
