101ShareFacebookTwitter.Man dies after being hit by taxi in Stoke-on-TrentA man has been arrested after a pedestrian died when he was hit by a taxi in Stoke-on-Trent.

Ambulance crews and police were called to High Street, Sandyford, near Tunstall, at about 04.30 GMT.

Staffordshire Police said a man in his 20s was confirmed dead at the scene after being involved in a collision with a Toyota Avensis taxi, which was carrying passengers home.

The male taxi driver was arrested in connection with the incident.

PC Paul Hargreaves has appealed for witnesses to come forward.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who was on their way home in the Tunstall and Sandyford areas at around 4am this morning," he said.

"We have completed a very detailed examination of the scene and we have seized the car involved for further examination."

The road was closed while officers examined the scene.
