Taxi driver found guilty of sexually abusing girls A TAXI driver has been convicted of sexually abusing a young girl for 11 years. At the High Court in Glasgow, 48-year-old Paul McCallum, from Blantyre, Lanarkshire, was unanimously found guilty of sexually abusing the girl from the age of five. McCallum also attempted to rape the girl. McCallum was also found guilty of sexually abusing another girl on one occasion when she was aged between eight and nine. The court heard that McCallum has a previous conviction from 1983 for under-age sex. Judge Alastair Stewart QC remanded him in custody and said: "A custodial sentence in this case, I think, is inevitable." McCallum will be sentenced next month. http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/news/taxi ... n.22560731 |

Why does that matter? because if the person was a phc driver then he would go through different checks than a taxi driver would so its important to clarify exactly what type of licence he has and what checks were carried out. Also the press are notoriously lazy when reporting issues with "taxi drivers". Not all of the issues actually involve licenced taxi drivers. |

And from where do you assume PHC drivers' undergo different checks than taxi drivers? Do yourself a favour and call the licensing departments of all Scottish councils and ask them, then do us all a favour and post the information here. Or make just 1 call to the Edinburgh cab office and you will be told politely that hecks on both types are identical. |

what they say and what they do are two different things. My son recently applied and received his PHC badge in 15 days from start to finish. My badge RENEWAL took 4 MONTHS. Fact is I am only INTRIGUED as to what type of licence holder this individual is. Nothing more, nothing less. Others seem to think I have other motives. I assure you I do not. There are good and bad in both sections of the trade. If he is a Taxi driver or a PHC then he is a scumbag. |

I think it's all down to luck, as there really isn't a good reason why one check takes days and another one takes weeks.

Paul McCallum jailed for sexually abusing young sisters A taxi driver who sexually abused a young girl for more than a decade has been jailed for five years. Paul McCallum, 48, abused the girl from the age of five at an address in Larkhall, South Lanarkshire, between 1994 and 2006. McCallum was also found guilty of abusing her sister, when she was aged between eight and nine, at a house in Larkhall between 2003 and 2004. At the High Court in Glasgow, he was placed on the sex offenders' register. Jailing him, temporary judge Alastair Stewart QC told McCallum: "A jury has found you guilty of a number of offences, including the serious offence of attempted rape. Regular abuse "It is the duty of the courts to protect young girls." During the trial, McCallum's first victim, who is now 25, told prosecutor Allan Nicol that she was regularly abused. She said that she was too afraid to tell anyone what he had done to her. It was only when she became an adult that she was able to speak up about the abuse. The jury heard that McCallum's began abusing the girl when she was just five years old and the abuse escalated as she got older. By the time she was nine he was regularly attempting to rape her. The abuse came to light when McCallum's second victim, who is now 18, told their mother what had happened to her during a row. She told her mother: "You don't know the half of it." When pressed to explain what she meant she blurted out that McCallum had sexually abused her. The police were called in and McCallum was charged. Previous conviction In evidence McCallum said: "It isn't true. They are telling lies. It never happened." However, he could give no explanation for why the sisters would make up allegations against him. The court heard that McCallum has a previous conviction from 1983 for under-age sex. As McCallum was led away to begin his sentence members of the sisters' family shouted: "You're a beast." Outside court the sisters' mother said: "Five years is a joke, my weans have got a life sentence because of what he put them through. "We are totally devastated five years is not enough." The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, added: "He may have abused other children and I would urge anyone who was abused by him to come forward and contact the police." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-g ... t-25121389 |

so the scumbag had a previous offence for the same thing 30 years ago yet all the checks failed to highlight this???? Dies nobody know what firm he worked for cos SERIOUS questions need to be asked if this beast was doing work involving vulnerable young people. I am sure organisations will not be happy if thats the case. |
