A man left in a critical condition after being dragged for 100 yards by a car he mistook for a minicab has now died, police confirmed this evening,
The 27-year-old man was taken to hospital after suffering serious head injuries in the incident at around 1.55am on Sunday morning on Essex Road in Islington, London.
He is thought to have leaned through the passenger window of a black Vauxhall Zafira, mistakenly thinking it was a minicab and trying to negotiate a fare.He was left clinging to the car when it drove off, before losing his grip and falling to the floor.
The driver of the car didn't stop, but police say was later arrested in connection with the incident after going to a north London police station.
The 57-year-old has been bailed until early January pending further enquiries.
Police said the man who suffered head injuries died this morning, and while officers believe they know who he is, they are yet to formally identify him.
His next of kin have been told, and a post mortem is scheduled to take place tomorrow.
An inquest will open in due course.
