Defiant cabbie prepared to fight off taxi knife manA brave taxi driver wrapped a jumper around his arm as he prepared to fight off three robbers who threatened him with a knife.
The cabbie had picked up two men and a woman outside Preston city centre and took them to Slade Street, just off Bow Lane, in the early hours of Thursday.
When he asked for the fare they rooted in their pockets and offered him loose change.
But one pulled out a large knife and demanded the cabbie’s takings when he told them it was not enough.
The defiant taxi driver pulled a jumper off one of the car seats and wrapped it around his arm, preparing to fight them off but the trio fled the scene.
Detectives have arrested an 18-year-old man from Preston in connection with the attempted robbery, after a complaint was made to officers about an alleged assault.
Officers are also hunting a man and a woman in connection with making off without payment.
Det Sgt John Crichton, of Preston CID, said: “The passengers quickly made off when they saw the taxi driver was standing his ground.”
They are probing the possibility it is linked to the robbery of a pizza delivery driver on Slade Street a week ago.
