"Appalling attack" on taxi driver in HookwoodA TAXI driver was subjected to an "appalling attack" outside a Surrey pub after his passengers refused to pay their fare.
Detectives from East Surrey CID have appealed for information following the assault in the early hours of Saturday, during which the man sustained serious injuries.
The driver had picked up two male passengers and three females from outside the Moka nightclub in Crawley at around 2am, in his white Ford Galaxy. He drove them to the Black Horse pub on Reigate Road, Hookwood, arriving at around 2.15am.
They refused to pay their fare on arrival, said police.
An altercation broke out between the passengers and the driver and he was left with facial and hand injuries which required hospital treatment.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Hannah Millyard, said: “I would appeal to anyone who believes they either saw the taxi driver pick up the fare near Crawley town centre or who saw the passengers being dropped off to contact officers with information.
“I would also ask anyone who has their suspicions around someone they know who they believe could be involved in this incident to share this information with us.
“This was an appalling attack on a man just going about his everyday business and we will do all we can to find those responsible for the assault and bring them to justice.”
