Taxi passenger called police 'numpties' in row over fareA TAXI passenger hurled abuse at police when they intervened in a row with a hackney cab driver over his fare.
Kevin Wheeler-Johns called the plain clothes officers 'numpties' while he argued with the driver.
At Plymouth Magistrates Court, Wheeler-Johns pleaded guilty to using disorderly behaviour on Charles Street in the city on December 20 last year.
The court heard that Wheeler-Johns had been taken to his home in Mannamead Road by the driver after arranging a fare of £5, claiming that was all he had.
The driver took him home for an apparently reduced rate but noticed that he had more money in his pocket.
After an argument, the driver returned Wheeler-Johns to where he had picked him up.
The fallout continued and passing police became involved.
The court heard Wheeler-Johns, 58, became abusive to them and kept swearing.
He was eventually arrested for his behaviour.
Magistrates ordered him to pay £100 for costs and a victim surcharge and sentenced him to a 12 month conditional discharge.
