Looks like you Chaps will need to Work 50% percent longer just to cover the same amount of road soon just to ensure Bikes, Bipeds and Snails hauling Rickshaws become the fastest mode of travel through the streets of the capital. City of Edinburgh council plans widespread 20mph zones "It is hoped reduced speeds will encourage journeys on foot or by bike A speed limit of 20mph covering most streets in Edinburgh could be introduced by the city council by 2017. Councillors on the Transport Committee have given their backing to a consultation on the proposal. The scheme is likely to apply to most residential, shopping and city centre areas. Through routes are expected to retain a 30mph limit. A motoring organisation has said it worries the plan will amount to no more than "putting up more signs". Neil Greig of the IAM Motoring Trust told BBC Scotland: "Our main reservation is about the blanket approach but it's also about the fact that we need to do a lot more in Edinburgh. "We need to have segregated cycling facilities, shared space. That involves a lot more investment in infrastructure. "This is just really about putting up more signs. We need to do a lot more than that in Edinburgh to actually encourage people out of their cars." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-25732147 |

This is a great idea for the cyclist. I remember when c*n*s used to knock me off my bike. Saying that, I was riding like a maniac but that's not the point. ![]() Oh and it's a pity about your earnings as a taxi driver, having to haul your ass around at 20mph. Not Good. ![]() You might be better off buying a Rickshaw. I bet there will be an explosion in man powered transport.

However at present there is no Home Office approved gun that can test for speeds of less than 30mph. So everyone ignores it. |

Those Edinburgh councillors simply hate all things Car, Van or truck, they do however love to subjugate the very people that voted such a bunch of useless pseudo greenies into their Guilded council cages in the first place. How you guys in Edinburgh continue puttiing up with or vote for such a bunch of egotistical councillors Iv'e no Idea..but you do so time after time after time.. |

If that is the case, there was no point in the limit in the first place. Did they just think everyone would obey the signs? We have 20 MPH limits outside all of our schools. However at the times that the kids are going into or leaving the schools it is not possible to drive any faster than a crawl. |

Lesley Hinds said she consulted the trade No she didn't Driving around in 2nd gear isn't going to be much fun especially those who have manual gearboxes, it's going to also increase fuel usage, costing us motorists more money. Driving at twenty will increase the temptation for drivers to use their phones etc Slowing the movement of traffic in a small city centre such as Edinburgh is going to increase congestion. Is it now worth it to a low mileage city centre car owner to actually own a car? No. (We could benefit) A policeman on STV last night said they can't enforce it due to lack of man power. All in its a stupid idea that's not a green idea, it won't stop accidents, how many accidents are caused by slow drivers and drivers not paying attention, 20 zones are unworkable. |

My guessing is it'll be policed by dozens of new Speed cameras springing up all over the place..Kerching. Then after they ditch free parking on sundays as well even more Kerching...and the first thing they'll do with all that extra revenue is give themselves a performance based pay rise..KERCHINNNNNNNNNGGGG!! |

If it's 20, as far as a cabbie is concerned then 20 it is, not willing to lose ones licence an aw that, it seems it's easier to take a chance of speeding on some 30 roads than it will be on a new 20 road, it'll become more obvious to the eye, increasing the chance of getting pulled, outwith Rush hour it's going to be a crawl, no good to punters in a hurry, more threat to the trade than Uber
