It's nor for taxi drivers who are self-employed and working in the grey economy, Skip. You are almost a non-person, no one wants to know you. :twisted:

Bring it on. We already pay £7.50 per hour on the books and are looking at an increase at the end of this month. If drivers want to continue on slave wages then good luck to them. I certainly don't expect drivers of our vehicles to work for nothing.

Aye but you're a legend Grandad, you always buck the trend. :) There's guys around my way who get paid 50 quid for a 10-hour shift from 7am - 5 pm. Oh and that's without a lunch break. That's a full 10 hours in the saddle. #-o

Drivers who are self employed pay 40 pence a mile for the use of the car. That is for the first 200 miles per week. Additional miles are at 33 pence per mile. This includes fuel, insurance, licensing, repairs and maintenance They pay no other fees to the company. We do not take a cut from account work and they are welcome to find their own work as well as any other work that we offer them. They work the hours they want and take time off when they want.
This is all well documented on here in various threads.
I will never be rich with this system but at least the drivers can earn a proper living.

Wonder if we'll get a fare rise if the minimum wage goes up :doubt:

So a 40 hour week at £7ph = £280,
Presuming optimistically our weekly costs are £250 (just for rent, insurance, fuel) we would then have to average £13.25ph on the meter just to achieve minimum wage, over a standard 40 hour week.

Or £14.25 to get £8ph, £15.25 for £9ph etc.

Last year my total outgoings (everything) was £15,000, I'd have to average a take of just over £14ph to make the proposed minimum wage. Even if you up the hours to 50 a week you have to average £10ph. :cry:

Just out of interest doesn't the tax threshold go up this year to 10K or something like that so we will hopefully be paying less tax

2013/14 £9,440.
2014/15 £10,000.

If I done 1000 miles (including empty miles) I'd expect to take £1000 at least.

Exactly, so on that basis a driver in one of my cars would take home a tad over £700 for the weeks work. Or just over 70%. How many circuits offer a 70% share of the bag with no other costs? Of course if a driver in one of my cars was earning this much on a regular basis, I would be advising him that he was in a position to buy his own car and become independent.
