Aberdeen taxi fares set to remain same

FEE: Taxis in Aberdeen are set to charge the same rates.

TAXI fares in Aberdeen are expected to stay at current levels for another 18 months.

Aberdeen City Council’s licensing committee wanted to peg fares after a review by consultants.

Following the public advertising of the proposals the tariffs are poised to remain at £2.40 for the first 950 yards and 20p for every 180.5 yards after that.

A report by licensing officer Jacqui Wallace said: “Fares need to be set at a level which will provide a fair return to the trade.

“This in turn will ensure there is provision of adequate taxi services for residents and visitors alike.

“A lack of taxis could have an adverse impact on the local economy and be detrimental to the city’s reputation as a destination for business and tourism.”

Err, if the fares don't go up the drivers earn less in real terms. If the drivers earn less they can't afford to put new vehicles on, less cabs as stated could have an adverse impact.

Buggered if I know, but many of them are Unite members nowadays.
By the time this 18 month period is passed, it will be 4 years without a rise.
Just one of several things Unite have managed to screw up since they arrived in the trade here.

I think most drivers would like a small increase,yes it would be hard for customers to understand but we need a rise.
I would leave the fares as they are but put the start of £2.40 upto £2.80. A small rise but better than nothing.

Small annual rises are always the best idea. That way we're not playing catch up every time and we don't look like greedy barstewards when the council looks at it.
The public always think we're robbing konts anyway
