CCTV cameras could be fitted to taxis in Aberdeen23 Jan 2014 10.11am
ACCIDENT CHECK: Taxis in Aberdeen could have CCTV cameras installed. TAXIS in Aberdeen are set to be given the go ahead to use CCTV equipment, the Evening Express can reveal today.
Aberdeen City Council officers have recommended allowing cabbies to fit cameras to their vehicles.
The CCTV would be used to gather evidence in the event of a crash.
A report by licensing team solicitor Paul Connolly said: “Taxi trade representatives were of the view that accident recording CCTV in taxis is appropriate.”
The fitting of cameras would be voluntary. The draft policy makes it clear that the cameras must not be used inside the vehicle and that no sound recordings can be made.
