A new WAV Taxi branch within the GMB Union has been formed by WAV Taxi Operators in Dundee. The new branch was setup in aug 2013 and now has over 70 members. It was felt by many WAV operators in dundee that the current representatives of the trade the unite union and the DTA were always favouring saloon operators in the city and that no real representation and consideration was given to WAV operators. The GMB now has a seat and a voice on the taxi liaison group, this was felt by many WAV operators as a very important step so that any new policy changes and inequality in the trade can be discussed, and decided fairly. One of the questions the GMB asked at the last taxi liaison group meeting on Monday 20th January was; ITEM 1 - MIXED FLEET POLICY - FINANCIAL FAIRNESS. The GMB would like to ask Dundee City Council when adapting its new mixed fleet policy? What consideration was given to the financial fairness of requiring wav operators to place more expensive vehicles on service, whilst other operators are allowed to place less expensive saloon cars on service. What can be done to help alleviate wav operators aggrievance to this financial difference. Dundee City Council are now dealing with this issue and a report will be made. |
