Taxi driver arrested after customer 'pinned against wall' by cab in Stockport

The driver, 46, is being quizzed on suspicion of section 18 assault after the incident in Hall Street, Offerton, Stockport

A taxi driver has been arrested after a customer was allegedly hit by his cab and pinned against a wall.

The driver, 46, is being quizzed on suspicion of section 18 assault after the incident in Hall Street, Offerton , Stockport , in the early hours of this morning.

It is understood the customer, 20, and a group of friends had got the Hackney cab to Stockport from Manchester city centre following a night out.

Police said there was a dispute and the customer was hit by the cab and pinned against wall at about 3am.

He suffered a serious injury to his left leg and was rushed to hospital where he is still being treated.

A GMP spokesman said: "Just after 3am on Saturday 1 February 2014, police were called to Hall Street in Stockport following reports of a collision involving a taxi and a pedestrian.

"Officers attended and found a 20-year-old man had sustained a serious injury to his left leg. He remains in hospital for treatment.

"A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and remains in police custody for questioning."

Harry Gee, 74 Georgina Gee, 73 - their garden wall was where the 20-year-old got hit

Georgina: "We heard a big bang and lots of screaming. There were about three of them on a girl who was really screaming. We thought it was just because thry were drunk you know, if we'd known there was an accident we would have gone down to help."

Harry: "I was after going down but Gina wouldn't let me. You don't know, they could have a knife or anything. The girl just would not stop screaming, she was really hysterical.

"There was quite a mess this morning on our wall. At first we thought they had just knocked over our bin, and I was worried about all the papers flying down the street."

Georgina: "The police said he did a U-turn and that's when he pinned him up against the wall. They were there this morning trying to pace it out.

We were just glad to hear he's going to be all right. That's the most important thing."
