One Direction strike free taxi ride deal for a whole year despite being multi millionaires

THE boys were given the special gift after band member Louis Tomlinson tweeted about a London cab firm.

THEY might be multi-millionaires, but One Direction still know how to blag a free ride. A year’s worth of free rides, in fact.

In their new single, Midnight Memories, the boys sing about squeezing all their mates into the back of an Addison Lee cab – a London minicab firm.

They even helpfully show one of the vehicles in their video, with the firm’s logo clearly on display.

Given that over 12 million people have by now watched the video, you can imagine how much that publicity is worth to the firm.

Never one to miss a trick, 22-year-old Louis Tomlinson (worth a nice £15million) was straight on to the firm, shamelessly blagging some freebies.

He posted on Twitter over the weekend: “Surely we get some kind of @AddisonLeeCabs gold card for the name drop haha !!??”

Ask and you shall receive – as the firm tell us they have come up ?with exactly that sort of scheme and will be thanking the boys for the gratuitous plug with an entire YEAR of free cab rides. Each.

We're told: “Addison Lee were delighted to be mentioned in the song. They even tried to see how many people you could actually fit in one of their cabs off the back of it.*

“So they were more than happy to give something in return. Thanks ?to Louis, they came up with the idea of giving them a year’s worth of free cab journeys.

“One Direction have used Add Lees since they were on the X Factor, and continued to use the company after they were signed.

“They actually ended up using the same driver quite often, so they took him to Wembley one week to thank him for ferrying them around.

“Lots of the X Factor alumni are still customers of the cab company.

“They’ve been looking at coming ?up with a celebrity scheme like this ?for a while, so the boys actually catapulted them into action.”

Now, there will probably be hordes of other celebrities namechecking the firm in the hope of getting similar treatment. Life’s not fare!

(*It’s 20. In case you were wondering. But the vehicle was stationary at the time, of course.)

When we had the stretched limos, we were mentioned in a rap on the radio. The radio station execs got free limos for their guests for a few months after that. In return we also got a deal to sponsor the drivetime programme at a very cheap rate.

The drivers will be doing it for free not the firm itself.
