Post subject:  Help for prospective Glasgow cabby

Hello all, recently signed up for the site. 8)

I am 25 and lived in Glasgow all my life. I recently passed my driving test, December 2013. and want to pursue a career driving a taxi. I want to go down the black cab route & not really the private taxi path. I know i need to hold my licence for a minimum 12 months. So i want to use these 12 months to study up for my Topographical test etc.

I have downloaded the "Best Practice Guidance for Licensing April 2012" posted by Stationtone, and am currently reading through this.

Could anyone give me an insight into the procedure's i will have to go through next year, what the test comprises of. Are there specific test papers i can read up on that will help me?

Any information or resources that i can read up, practical practice i can put to use. All so when time comes i am ready.

Thanks for your help guys. :)

Also i have been on GlasgowTaxis website and they are offering, classes and test papers for £4.50 each. Would this be worth my while attending? Or is this just a money spinning scheme?

Personally I think it makes sense to attend some sort of class.

Get to know those in the trade, and others wanting to join, to see if it is actually what you want.

You will also get an idea on how much you will need to earn to actually earn.

Yeah i think i will drop in and see what its like. For £4.50 even if i come away with very little info it will still be worth it.
