A MOTHER whose daughter survived a horrifying hit-and-run just yards from her front door has told how the six-year-old was flipped in the air off the bonnet of the car.

Mara McBrierty, 29, said little Roxanne was “lucky to be alive” after the sickening smash.

She heard tyres screech and a dull thud as she ran into the street where she found the youngster curled up on the ground – and a private hire car speeding off from the scene around a corner.

has told how the six-year-old was flipped in the air off the bonnet of the car.

“It happened on Good Friday at around 3pm and Roxanne had been playing outside when I shouted for her to come in,” she said.

“As she crossed the road, a taxi came out of nowhere and clipped her, sending her right over the bonnet of the car and on the road.

“By the time I got there the taxi driver was round the corner. He just drove off without stopping.”

Ms McBrierty, who lives in Broomhouse Street North, said she was “terrified” her daughter had been in “serious danger”.

“By the time I reached her the car had disappeared around the corner and my daughter was lying on the ground.

“A six-year-old girl was involved in a collision with a silver private hire vehicle at around 3pm on Friday, April 18. She was taken to hospital, however, she only sustained minor injuries.

Wouldn't the height of your average six year old not end up bowled over and under a car as opposed to being scooped over the bonnet. And just cuts and bruises??? £££££££££££

That's what I would expect, either that or a glancing blow where the child hits the side of the vehicle and bounces off, rather than the front of the car.

Personally, I think this is about the mother of the child avoiding any kind of personal responsibility and trying to play the blame game, on the off chance she can make a claim against someone.

Forward and rear facing CCTV, would solve all these problems of who, where, what, why and when. Oh and I doubt, if this mother found herself faced with video evidence, she would be quite so outspoken with her allegations of criminal wrongdoing.

The driver still had a duty to stop, I can't believe he never he never heard a child clattering into the side of his vehicle, the first thing you would do would be checking in your side mirrors, any decent human would pull over and stop regardless who was to blame
