Taxi driver robbed in Carlisle

A taxi driver in Carlisle was robbed by a passenger this morning (Wednesday 28th).

The incident happened around 2am in the area Gray’s Kennels, on the outskirts of Carlisle near to Cranstons Food Hall at Orton Grange.

The taxi driver, a 39 year old man from Carlisle, was asked to pull over by the passenger and was threatened with an unknown metal object. The taxi driver handed over £350 to the offender who ran off towards the Cranstons Food Hall.

The attacker is described as being white, wearing a dark hoody with his hood pulled up. The hoody had a white badge on the left of the chest area and he was wearing light jeans.

He is described as being in his mid-thirties, gaunt-looking and of skinny build. He was between 5ft 8 - 5ft 10 inches tall and spoke with a strong Scottish accent.

The victim was uninjured. Anyone with information should contact the police.

I strongly believe that each taxi should be equipped with cameras just like trams or buses are. It would increase safetyness.

I strongly believe that each taxi driver who carries that amount on his person is stupid, and puts us all at risk.
