Police probe as £150,000 of cannabis is seized from car

A probe has been launched after a car pulled over on a Preston motorway was found to contain cannabis with a street value of nearly £150,000.

Lancashire Police stopped a vehicle believed to be travelling from Merseyside to Glasgow at junction 31 of the M6 on Wednesday night, after acting on intelligence passed on to them.

They discovered 30kg of the class B drug split into around 300 solid blocks.

Jon Dolan, a 30-year-old taxi driver from Glasgow, appeared before Preston Magistrates Court on Friday morning charged with being concerned in the supply of a class B drug.

The married father-of-two indicated no plea.

Prosecuting, Martine Connah said: “He told police during his interview that had been offered £500 for picking up a parcel from Liverpool postcode. He travelled from Glasgow to Liverpool

“He said his wife lost a baby in February and he took time off work.

“He had taken out a payday loan.

“He felt the £500 would help their financial situation.

“He told police there was a package in the boot and that he did not know what was in it.”

The case was committed to Preston Crown Court where he will appear on June 24 and he was granted conditional bail by District Judge Jane Goodwin.

Ignorance would be no defence if you claimed you did not know what was in the package, im sure i read somewhere a few years ago about a driver who got sent down for ferrying drugs. We do occasional parcel deliveries but have to have the approriate insurance in place for that too and also a carriage of goods policy.
It may seem like Christmas come early if some one offers you 500 notes to deliver a "package" but if you have doubts then refuse. The funny smell should give you a clue! :)
