Taxi driver punched in face and robbed as he waited for fare Cabbie flees car as men launch attack outside Clare House
Police have issued CCTV images of the men they want to speak to in connection with the assault on the cabbie
A taxi driver suffered a torrent of racist abuse and was punched in the face as a gang of thieves ransacked his vehicle in Castle Bromwich.
The 42-year-old driver was forced to flee his car as the gang attacked him as he waited to pick up a fare outside Clare House in Barle Close in the early hours of May 25.
Fearing for his safety he ran from the scene, leaving the thugs through his car, stealing his cash bag, sat nav and mobile phone.
The man managed to flag down a passing taxi a few streets away and he was driven back to the scene to find his car empty and the offenders gone.
West Midlands Police detectives have now issued CCTV images of men they want to talk to about the incident. DC Lucinda Wilson, from Solihull local priority team, is investigating the robbery. She said: “This was a violent and very unpleasant attack on a lone man who was simply doing his job.
“He was punched several times to the face and was so scared that he left his car and possessions as he ran to get away from his attackers.
“Those involved shouted racist abuse at the man as they carried out the crime and we want to trace those responsible, which leads us to release the images of people we would like to speak to in connection with the attack.”
The offenders are all described as white and in their mid to late 20s. Three of the men are around 5ft 9in tall whilst their accomplice is a little taller, around 5ft 11in tall, and of bigger build. He also had tattoos.
A 47-year-old man was arrested on May 29 and remains on police bail in connection with the robbery.
Police urge anyone with information or who recognises the men pictured to contact them on 101 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
