Taxi Driver Online :: View topic - Calling all Basingstoke and any other interested drivers.

There are 6 taxi operators in the UK already operating one of more electric vehicles. Two of the companies only operate completely electric vehicles. See example EV fleets

I have been working with the Basingstoke council to install a rapid charger in the town centre car park, that can charge a car to 80% in around 30 minutes. It will therefore be feasible to run electric locally in Basingstoke from Autumn 2014, saving around £4,500/vehicle/year compared to a good diesel. Also, the first person that drives an electric in Basingstoke will be the first electric taxi in the south.

There are lots of myths and misconceptions about electric and I am thinking of organising an electric vehicle advice session on Mon 20 Sept during Basingstoke's Green Week to answer any questions that people have.

Even if you are not intending coming can you please let me know if you are located in Basingstoke so that I can estimate total attendees.

If you are interested please let me know and also if you are coming from outside Basingstoke.

Not sure I can really answer your question.

I assume that you are talking about the Green Bus Fund (which has now finished but another similar system is expected in 2015). This is certainly a different way of supporting the increase in green transport. For cars it is 20% of purchase price upto a max of £5k.

It is not clear why buses got such a high grant compared to cars, given that cars are already less efficient/person and domestic users are less able to pay.

Thanks to those that have responded via email. It looks like there is enough interest to run the workshop in Basingstoke. I will post more details once the logistics have been tied down.

Must be all of them as I haven't announced anywhere else yet.

Rob Go advertise elsewhere..I'm fed up hearing of the wonders of electricity, come back and preach to us when your Buzz wagons can take Four adults with Luggage in comfort, Are equivalent in price to buy as Diesel cars, can Travel 400 Miles Minimum on a charge and when Every town has enough Chargers for at least 85% of the cars out there, Half an Hour at Best for each 30 Miles of fare Income is in no way comparable to 5 Minutes at the Fuel pump for 600 Miles of fare income..What planets are you guys living on? is it the same one as me and which relies on profits and not subsidies? One lonely little charger is of no use if the Nutty Professors and Local Green town councillors are all queued up waiting to use the damn thing in order to get home from their Greenpeace or Climate control meeting. No profit in being Immobile and even less profit if your Customers are left Stranded and powerless miles from home and you have to pay another company towards the fare for their taxi to their final destination.

We run our business for profit and need answers as to how making that profit may be affected through an electric vehicles abilities or inabilities...We are not looking at it through same corporate consultancy rose tinted glasses that you are., your trying to sell Electric Vehicles and we are trying to sell our services and at present these two products are nothing like compatible and nor will they be in the foreseeable future.
