William Forsyth's taxi which was damaged in Eskbank Road, Dalkeith, Midlothian on Friday July 18.
Damage: The window was smashed by the stone.

A child was showered in glass after a gang of teenagers smashed the window of the taxi he was travelling in.

Driver William Forsyth had to stop when he came across cones in the middle of the road as he drove along Eskbank Road in Dalkeith at around 2.30am on Friday.

The cabbie, who runs Forsyth Private Hire, says a group of around six teenagers then ran out the park and threw a stone at his taxi, smashing the passenger window.

An 11-year-old boy was covered in shattered glass as Mr Forsyth drove away to get away from the gang.

The taxi driver said: "This not only gave me a fright but terrified my six passengers who were travelling home from Newcastle.

"This included children, one of which was sitting right by that window and was now covered in glass. I was lucky this time no one was injured."

Police Scotland said they are investigating and appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman said: "Officers are investigating after the window of a taxi was smashed on Eskbank Road in Dalkeith at around 2.25am on Friday 18th July.

"A group of hooded youths were seen running from the scene and anyone with any information which may help with our enquires is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 or, alternatively, call the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
