Court is told of Telford knife attack on taxi driver

A taxi driver was cut with a knife after picking up two teenagers in Telford, a court heard.

Eighteen-year-old Chloe Louise Watts denied charges of attempted robbery, possession of a knife and unlawful wounding after she and a 17-year-old boy were arrested following the attack in Mossey Green Way, Ketley Bank, on May 13.

The attack left the taxi driver, a man in his 40s, needing 11 stitches to his hand.

Watts, of Blakemore, Brookside, Telford, did not know the 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had a knife with him, Shrewsbury Crown Court was told.

However, she pleaded guilty to assisting him, as she had advised him to get rid of his clothing after the attack.

Robert Edwards, prosecuting, said the boy had already pleaded guilty to possessing the knife and the unlawful wounding on July 14, and prosecutors would not pursue the attempted robbery charge.

He said the Crown Prosecution Service would accept Watts’s guilty plea to assisting the boy in place of the other charges.

On Monday the case was adjourned until September 5 for both to be sentenced.

Watts was granted bail on condition she report to Malinsgate Police Station on Tuesday and Friday and co-operate with probation in drawing up a pre-sentence report on her circumstances.
