Taxi driver gets community service for killing OAP

A taxi driver, who killed a 74-year old pedestrian on a Zebra crossing, has been ordered to perform 240 hours of unpaid work and disqualified from driving for 40 months.

Forty-six year old Clark Munro of Quarryfoot Green, Bonnyrigg, pled guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on July 1 to causing the death of Ian McCance on January 26 last year by driving without due care and attention on Marchmont Road, Edinburgh, and failing to observe Mr McCance on the crossing. Sentence was deferred until today for background reports.

Mr McCance, an accountant, was returning home after addressing The Haggis at a Burns’ Supper and was halfway over the crossing when he was struck by the cab at around 3 am.
