20 Walsall taxi drivers hauled before courts in six months More than 20 taxi drivers were hauled before the courts for disciplinary hearings or court action in Walsall in less than six months, it has emerged. This ranged from one having their licence revoked for a drink drive conviction to another hit with a court bill of £620 after plying for hire and using a vehicle without insurance. There were 20 drivers brought before Walsall Council’s taxi licensing sub-committee between March and July this year, latest figures have revealed. These ranged from motoring offences such as breaching conditions and failing to disclose criminal convictions such as a caution for battery. The majority were handed cautions or no further action was taken although one had their licence revoked and another issued a three month suspension. The case of the driver taken to Walsall Magistrates Court saw them given the fine, ordered to pay costs and given six penalty points on their licence. Councillor Gary Clarke, vice-chairman of the licensing and safety committee, said: "Every taxi driver should be fit for the purpose.
