Breaking news: Taxi driver held at gunpoint after picking man up in Sutton

A taxi driver was allegedly held at gunpoint by a man who threatened to put two bullets in his head after he picked him up at a Sutton taxi rank.

The driver of the 6five2’s Taxis cab then drove the man to Chesterfield during his terrifying ordeal which happened on Saturday night into the early hours of Sunday morning.

Barry Answer, spokesman for 6five2’s said the man was arrested after he ran off when the driver, who has not been named, stopped to buy chewing gum for him in Chesterfield.

Speaking this morning (8th September), he said: “It was very frightening for the driver. It is appalling for something like this to happen when someone is just trying to earn a living.

“We don’t know much more about it as our driver hasn’t been back in yet.”

It was not clear if the gun was real or not.

It is understood police have returned the car to the taxi firm after carrying out forensic tests.

We will publish more information about this incident when we have it.

Now if your saying he's using an Ashfield private hire vehicle through a mansfield private hire company, I would say that's very illegal, and him being a councillor, fit and proper and all that.

Yes that's correct, he sits on the Licensing panel in Mansfield but he's an owner driver of an Ashfield plated Private Hire vehicle working for a Mansfield Company.
