There is a lot more to this story. The local mayor has resigned over this, he gave a reference
for the driver.

It does, it's just the council didn't exclude the driver from being licensed having considered the check.

However the firm could always ask any new driver for a copy of their DBS check.

So they are not blameless.

I'm guessing the Mayor was Subhan Shafiq another fine English Anglo-Saxon name. Does anyone see a pattern developing here?

Ignoring all the ethnic issues that seem to be occurring in many threads, surely the issue shouldn't have happened anyway under the new DBS system.

The new DBS system puts people on their bad list. It is an offence to work with children and vulnerable adults if you are on that list. Even an offence to apply for a job.

So was this mush on that list? If not why? Why didn't the council pick this up? If they did who agreed to license this person?

Many questions, yet I doubt we will get any answers.

Exposed: the violent past of Milton Keynes’ rapist cabbie

Image

Official reports detailing the sick crimes of the rapist allowed to work as a city taxi driver can be exclusively revealed by the Citizen.

Nadeem Ahmed Kiani, 44, attacked women by hiding in the back of a car, threatening them with weapons and forcing them to strip.

In spite of his past, and his eight-year prison sentence, he was granted a cab licence in Milton Keynes by the council after a character reference from a councillor who later became mayor.

Mr Kiani worked for three years in Milton Keynes, first as a private hire driver and subsequently as a taxi driver, including work for Skyline Taxis.

The convictions, which occurred over a three-month period in 1994, are detailed in a report written by Thames Valley Police for the council.

It says: “Mr Kiani and his co-defendant would pick up prostitutes in a vehicle.

“One of them would hide in the back of the car, whilst the other negotiated a price and then had sex with the prostitute.

“A code word would then be used and the defendant in the back would come out of hiding and they would then threaten the victim with various weapons.”

The report said the victims were made to remove their clothes before being raped and seriously sexually assaulted in turn.

Mr Kinia’s character referee, Mayor of Milton Keynes Subhan Shafiq, stepped down last week over the scandal.

He insists he knew nothing about his friend’s criminal past.

Councillors took into account that married father-of-five Mr Kiani had been to therapy and not committed any further offences, before they issued a taxi licence in September 2011.

In January 2012 the council was given further detail about Mr Kiani’s offences, and three months later his licence was suspended.

Incredibly, he was re-issued with his private hire licence in May 2012 and then given a Hackney Carriage licence in March this year.

He continued working with BOTH licences until last month.

Since Mr Kiani’s past was revealed it has emerged there is another sex offender currently driving a taxi in Milton Keynes.

I have to be honest if I was operating in MK I'd want to be seeing the drivers DBS/CRB as you clearly can't trust the council to do their job properly.
