An Uber driver is accused of striking a passenger on the head with a hammer after an argument over directions.
Patrick Karajah, 26, has pleaded not guilty in San Francisco to charges of assault with a deadly weapon and serious bodily injury.
According to court documents, Karajah picked up two men and a woman from a bar at about 2am on Tuesday.
An argument ensued during the journey over the directions he was taking.
Karajah then stopped the vehicle in the Bernal Heights neighbourhood and told the passengers to get out.
Prosecutors said he then struck one of the men on the side of his head with the hammer before driving away.
Victim Roberto Chicas' injury is so bad he could lose an eye, say police.
Karajah, who was driving for the basic UberX service, was arrested at his home.
Uber said in a statement the driver's account had been suspended pending the outcome of the case.
Another Uber driver, Daveea Whitmire, 28, was charged in June with assaulting a passenger.
The Los Angeles and San Francisco district attorneys recently threatened legal action against Uber and other ride-sharing services.
They accused the companies of misleading customers by promising thorough driver background checks.
