A 26-year-old was fighting for his life today after tumbling from the back of a moving taxi.



Police were today investigating how the man, who suffered severe head injuries, ended up in the back of the vehicle without the driver knowing he was there.

It is believed the man had been with a group of men and women outside Domino’s Pizza in Alexandra Avenue in Harrow, north west London, next to a parked Renault Trafic taxi.

The driver of the minibus drove away but after about 400m noticed the tailgate was open and a man was rolling along the road.

Police were called shortly after 1am and the injured man was taken to a central London hospital where his condition is critical.

The taxi driver returned to the scene to help and has not been arrested.

A local businessman who drove past the scene shortly after said: “There were ambulances and police and I could see the man lying in the road. We haven’t heard anything about what happened, just that he fell out of the taxi. It’s quite bizarre.”

Scotland Yard has appealed for witnesses to come forward to help officers discover how the man ended up in the taxi.

Detective Sergeant Chris Osborne said: “We know this man was with a group of what appeared to be friends or colleagues moments before he was injured.

“He is now in hospital in a critical condition and I would urge anyone with information to come forward so that we can establish the precise events.”
