Huddersfield taxi driver Shah Neewaz is fined after operating without a valid licence

The Springwood man also admitted driving without displaying door signs and a taxi vehicle plate

A taxi driver has been fined after working without a valid licence.

Shah Neewaz, of Springwood, pleaded guilty to driving his vehicle when his taxi driver licence had expired, Kirklees Council said.

He also admitted a charge of driving a licensed vehicle without displaying door signs and a taxi vehicle plate.

Kirklees magistrates were told about an incident in April when licensing officers from Kirklees Council were made aware of Neewaz picking up a passenger in his vehicle which was not displaying any door signs or a plate.

Further investigations revealed that the taxi driving licence belonging to him had expired in February 2014 and was not renewed.

Magistrates fined Neewaz £55. He was also ordered to pay £185 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

A Kirklees Council spokesman said: “Kirklees licensing officers take public safety very seriously.

“We are reminding fare paying passengers to only use taxis and private hire vehicles that are displaying the required signage.”

I suspect they didn't liaise with the police, or did and the police forgot about it.

Or they did, and the police sent him a fixed penalty ticket, which was dealt with out of court.

Didn't know it was an offence not to have door signs? There's lots of limos at Manchester airport without them.

I guess having door signs on hackneys is down to individual councils.
