Hanley minicab driver facing ban for picking up undercover cops

Minicab driver Iftab Hussain could lose his licence for six months after he accepted a fare on the street – contrary to his licence.

The 26-year-old was caught after undercover police officers posed as customers on Trinity Street, Hanley.

Now Hussain, of Gilman Street in Hanley, has been fined £350 and given eight penalty points for driving without insurance and driving a vehicle that is not licensed as a public hackney carriage, after he was convicted in his absence.

As he already has four points, the endorsement means Hussain will lose his licence for six months.

Magistrates agreed to suspend the ban until the crown court considers an application by Hussain after he said he planned to appeal the conviction.
