Teenager robber who pulled knife on Stevenage taxi driver has been sent to a young offenders' institution for three and a half yearsA teenage robber, who pulled a knife on a Stevenage taxi driver and was caught on a dashboard camera, has been locked up for 42 months.
Emmanuel Crown, now 19, of Canterbury Way, Stevenage, pushed the flick knife into the neck of father-of-five Habibur Rehman and demanded all his money.
But Mr Rehman had only just started his night shift so Emmanuel Crown grabbed the dashboard camera, the cabbie's mobile phone and £10 and ran off.
Police sent out tracker dogs which led directly to his home in Canterbury Way. The iPhone, with charging lead attached, was found in the property on a table.
Crown, who has two previous convictions for robbery, pleaded guilty to robbery on Thursday, April 24 this year and was sent to a young offenders' institution for three and a half years.
Recorder Gerard Pounder, sitting at Cambridge Crown Court, described the robbery as "a nasty crime" which had affected Mr Rehman who was working nights to support his family.
"He is entitled to carry out his business without someone putting a knife to his neck to steal from him.
"You took a weapon out and didn't simply brandish it. It must have been a very frightening experience for Mr Rehman."
He said in an impact statement that he felt he was extremely close to being seriously injured and afterwards was not able to sleep properly.
When arrested Crown originally denied he was involved and denied being the male shown on the CCTV. But he later pleaded guilty.
