Woman who did not pay taxi fare jailed

A 33-year-old Ilkeston woman, who has previous criminal convictions, has been set to prison for failing to pay a taxi fare.

Marie Westwood, of Muskham Avenue, appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on October 15 where she was sent to prison for seven weeks.

On August 24 she got a taxi from Derby to Ilkeston and made off without paying.

Magistrates gave Westwood a jail term because of her previous convictions which had seen her serve time in custody.

She was also in breach of a licence , did not comply with a community order for another offence and failed to surrender to custody.

Lets hope she'll be munching some carpet while she's in there.

She ticked all the right boxes.

Sort of woman you'll take home to meet your mother.

Anybody the responsible age of 33 and a habitual re-offender wont be deterred from future crimes by 7 week spell in Her Majestys 4 star Hotel. Maybe 10 years in solitary on Bread and water and sewing Mail bags might help. It certainly would give the likes of these people cause to pause and think before they rip off or steal from people in the future.

A relative of mine was an absolute nightmare to deal with, lovely girl with a heart of gold but a brain of lead.

However she spent 6 months in Holloway about 6 years ago.

That experience changed her life, she now has a very good job and a fine husband.

She vowed to Uncle Sx that she would never go back, and bless her heart she has made huge leaps forward.

So she might be in the minority, rather than the majority, but for her prison did work.

Thank f***.

I think waking up every morning in the same room as Ivy, the 30 stone lesbian who's doing life is enough to put anyone off going back inside.
