Revealed: Property and minicab tycoon meets drug baron and crime clan member

MILLIONAIRE Stevie Malcolm held talks with convicted drug dealer Mark Richardson and Steven Daniel, nephew of gangland godfather Jamie Daniel.

ONE of Scotland’s richest men had a meeting with a notorious cocaine baron and a crime clan member at his business HQ.

Property and minicab tycoon Stevie Malcolm held talks with convicted drug dealer Mark Richardson and Steven “Bonzo” Daniel – nephew of crime boss Jamie Daniel.

The three men met last week at the office of one of Malcolm’s minicab firms and chatted in private for an hour.

Malcolm, 51, is one of Scotland’s richest entrepreneurs with an interest in a string of minicab companies, including Glasgow Private Hire, and property firms.

His personal wealth is estimated to be more than £40million.

Richardson, 27, was one of the country’s biggest coke dealers and was jailed in 2010 for 10 years after police smashed his £5million racket.

It was his second conviction for drug dealing after he was first jailed for trafficking cocaine with his dad, also Mark, in 2007.

He was freed earlier this year and quizzed by detectives several weeks ago following a spate of gangland shootings in Edinburgh.

The hood was also an associate of murdered gangster and Daniel clan enforcer Kevin “Gerbil” Carroll, who was shot dead almost five years ago.

Daniel, 34, helped run a payday loan office in Glasgow’s Possil area before it was raided by police and closed down.

His mum is Annette Daniel, the boss of a notorious professional shoplifting gang.

Last night, Malcolm said Richardson and Daniel wanted to discuss adding minicabs to Glasgow Private Hire’s fleet but he declined their offer.

He added: “I politely told them we’ve got enough minicabs at the moment but I’d let them know in the future.

“I just said that to get rid of them, I knew one of them was a bit dodgy.

“It doesn’t matter what one but they won’t have cars here.”

The trio met at 5pm on Thursday at the office of Glasgow Private Hire in the city’s Edinburgh Road.

Despite the cold conditions, Malcolm turned up for the meeting in a pair of shorts.

One onlooker said: “Malcolm was in charge and leaned forward on the edge of his seat for the whole meeting but Richardson and Daniel were both very relaxed.

“They all had plenty to say and were deep in conversation for a full hour but it didn’t look like they were cracking any jokes.

“Everyone looked very serious and they were still stern-faced when they all left.”

All three left the minicab base just after 6pm.

Multi-millionaire Malcolm splashed out £9million on building Scotland’s most expensive home overlooking the Queen’s Course at Gleneagles in Perthshire in 2008.

In 2010, after a police raid on the home of disgraced businessman Barry Hughes, Malcolm was revealed as Hughes’s landlord.

It emerged Hughes, who has convictions for violence, paid Malcolm £4000 a month rent to live in the £1million mansion in Kilmacolm, Renfrewshire, which was targeted in a Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency operation.

Hughes was jailed for 43 months for mortgage fraud and money laundering earlier this year.

But the sentence was overturned and he was ordered to pay a £45,000 fine. He’s also being chased for proceeds of crime cash.

As well as Glasgow Private Hire, Malcolm is a director of Paisley Cab Co, Lanarkshire Private Hire and Edinburgh City Private Hire.

He has directorships at Malcolm Whitecross Ltd estate agents, Kingspoint Properties Ltd and Macropaper Ltd, another property firm. In 1990, police seized more than 100 stolen cars which were rented out to taxi firms owned by Malcolm.

He was arrested at the same time as two associates of late crime boss Tam “The Licensee” McGraw but he was never prosecuted.

Richardson was spoken to by detectives this month after a series of shootings and a bomb hoax in
Edinburgh. He was also quizzed over the whereabouts of violent fugitive Jonathan Kelly, 34,

Richardson has been in a feud with fraudster Robert Kelbie whose house was shot at last November. Earlier this month, a home in Clermiston, Edinburgh was targeted.

It’s claimed the shooter got the wrong house and the real target was gangland thug Don Webley, 31.

Last month, a Land Rover belonging to gangland killer Jamie Bain’s wife was targeted and a fake bomb left outside her home. Another property in the city’s Gilmerton was targeted in a gun attack.

The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings.

Mark Richardson snr , is a nice guy.
He fell upon an unexpected tragic health issue and desperation to support a young family.
Nobody rams white powder up coke heads noses ,as shops and supermarkets don't ram frosty jacks down jakeys throats.
There's not really a story here is there??

I tend to agree with that, tbh, it's a wee bit like Breaking Bad becasue you find yourself in a desperate situation and personally, I would never judge someone until I had walked in his shoes. :-| Life can deal you some not so funny cards... :-|

What two guys meet taxi tycoon proposing to add to his fleet, tycoon politely rejects offer, what kind of story's that.
The bumf surrounding the story is old news.
I think your ignorant to judge someone you don't even know its arrogant too but your irrelevant tbh.

I meant this bit of your comments;

millions of people fall upon hard times - very few then go down the route of selling drugs and other police.

I just googled that name and the folk sound really sweet

Folk is plural, I knew Mark Richardson snr whom I mentioned.
There's a difference between googling a name and knowing what someone was like, to the extent that you know without ignorance they were desperate.Maybe if you got out more instead of googling and cutting and pasting and judging folk you don't know you would be able to open your mind up a little.
