Somerset taxi drivers face losing licence as deadline loom

A third of taxi drivers across Sedgemoor risk losing their licence as they have not yet submitted their DBS forms.

Sedgemoor, like other local authorities, has a duty to ensure that the public are transported in safe vehicles by individuals who are suitable to drive for the public.

This is done by a licencing system. Part of that system requires drivers to submit a DBS form.

The Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) tells the Council what convictions or reports are recorded against individuals (if any) which then, in turn, feeds into the licencing process.

All current licences expire on November 30.

It appears that, it can take as much as a month for the results to come back from the DBS to Sedgemoor District Council and only then can SDC issue a licence.

If any drivers are experiencing difficulty with any aspect of their renewal, please contact SDC as soon as possible as time is running out.

Hackney Carriage/Private Hire driver licenses

If the CRB Check is for the purposes of obtaining a private hire license, you will require an Enhanced CRB Check.

Personnel checks are contracted by a number of local authorities across the UK to organise Enhanced CRB Checks for these licenses. To organise your Enhanced check for your license you should contact the authority where you are obtaining the license from and ask them for instructions to apply for your CRB Check.

That says CRB check. CRB checks went to the Council. DBS checks are supposed to go directly to the individual applicant.

Most of that site seems to be about CRB checks with very little mention of DBS. I can't seem to find where it says who receives the certificate but it does mention that they can be taken from post to post which would suggest that the applicant has got it.

I think I know what it means but does the company know what the difference is when it comes to who they issue the certificate to?

I will try to keep this simple...The driver signs an authorisation..authorising the council to act for him,..council to CRB/DBS then CRB/DBS back to council Email..2 to 4 days....The driver can not play with it..
