RAF veteran 'moved' as Darlington cabbie refuses to charge fare A VETERAN was left moved by the actions of a kind taxi driver recently. RAF veteran Robin Ellwood was in a taxi on his way to give a talk to students at a Darlington school on Thursday (November 5). The British Legion representative chatted about his war time experiences with the driver and was surprised when his offer of payment was firmly refused. Mr Ellwood said: “I’d been chatting to him about my time serving in the RAF and he was telling me his father had served in the war. “I got to the end of my journey and the driver said ‘it’s on me’. “Little acts of generosity like this mean the world – it’s the little things that make a difference. “I know it wasn’t a great deal of money but the fact he did it and he didn’t have to deserves thanks.” Andrea Bentley, manager of 1AB Taxis, said: “The taxi driver is too shy to reveal himself but this proves the high standard of drivers we have. “It was his way of paying respect to someone who did something really great. “As a large company in Darlington, we do our best to support the veterans as we wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them.” source: http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/l ... arge_fare/ |
