Taxi driver loses appeal after licence revoked A TAXI driver has lost his appeal against Adur District Council’s decision to strip him of his licence. Khalil Kirollos, who was a licensed Adur private hire and hackney carriage driver, appeared at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on November 7 to make his case. He had been prosecuted by Brighton and Hove City Council in March for benefit fraud. He was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court to four months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, and ordered to pay £500 costs. He was also ordered to repay the benefit overpayment. Adur Council then revoked the 55-year-old’s private hire and taxi licence. The court decided to dismiss the appeal because the earlier benefit fraud conviction was classed as serious dishonesty. There was also a need to protect the public, so drivers had to have a high standard of integrity, it was said. Adur Council was awarded £250 towards costs. source: http://www.shorehamherald.co.uk/news/lo ... -1-6422262 |

The irony is he will now probably be able to claim more benefits than before, and not have enough to repay the overpayment or court costs

Why fiddle benefits when he could probably have claimed Working Tax Credits? |
