Aberdeen cabbies want new fee for airport drop-offs


TAXI drivers in Aberdeen could be set to charge an extra fee for drop offs at the airport.

Members of Unite Union Taxi Branch – which represents 120 drivers in the city – and Aberdeen Taxi Group, want taxi drivers to be allowed to add an extra £1 fare onto journeys to Aberdeen International Airport.

The city airport is to charge £1 for up to 10 minutes outside the terminal under proposals which will be introduced next year.

Under the plans the £1 fee will be imposed on January 7 – but Aberdeen International Airport taxis will continue to operate in the same way without paying this charge.

Airport taxi drivers already pay a fee of £60 a week to Aberdeen International Airport, along with other fees, for the right to pick up passengers at the airport.
