Minicab boss fined at Nuneaton Magistrates Court

A MINICAB company operator has been fined for breaking licensing laws.

Trivadi Bhella of Warwickshire Cars and Coaches is now more than £3,300 out of pocket after appearing at Nuneaton Magistrates Court.

The businessman was taken to court by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council over a trio of offences.

Speaking after the hearing, which Mr Bhella did not attend, councillor Danny Aldington, cabinet member for central services at the local authority said that he was pleased with the result following a lengthy investigation.

“After a lot of time and effort, it’s pleasing to get a positive result, showing local operators we will follow through when we get evidence that indicates that they have committed an offence,” said the councillor.

At the short hearing, held on Tuesday morning, at Nuneaton Magistrates Court, Trivadi Bhella was fined a total of £3,327 for three offences prosecuted by the council.

The court found him guilty in his absence and fined him £700 per offence, a £120 victim surcharge and full costs at £1,107.

The offences, Under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976, were that he used an unlicensed driver, that he operated a private hire vehicle when the driver was not licensed and that he failed to display a private hire plate.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council licences and inspects both Hackney carriages and private hire vehicles in the borough to ensure that they are safe for use by the public.
