Uber driver takes passengers on a massive detour all over London, and charges them £121 ![]() Is this the worst Uber driver ever? It would have probably been quicker to walk (Picture: Twitter) Either this Uber driver was trying to draw a cool image on Google Maps, or he was just embarrassingly lost. Abbie McCarthy and some friends jumped into an Uber cab following a late night over the weekend, but their short journey home turned into an epic trek after the driver seemed to take them on a little tour of London. What should have been a 26 minute journey took over an hour, and Abbie claimed she and her friends were charged a £121.59 for the pleasure. Not only that, but she called the driver the ‘rudest man I’ve ever come across’, and claimed that he nearly crash twice during the trip. Abbie had the good sense to activate Google Maps before her journey started, so she could charts the bizarre route the driver took to get her home. A spokesperson for Uber said: ‘Fortunately insistences of this nature are very rare. However, one of the advantages of Uber is that it provides a very transparent route map of every trip. As a result we are able to quickly establish if the wrong route has been taken and ensure riders are not charged an incorrect fare.’ They confirmed that Abbie was refunded her fare in this instance. source: http://metro.co.uk/2014/12/16/uber-driv ... 1-4989022/ |

'Why do you need to do the knowledge when there's sat navs around' ..... Says the much repeated line.

Shoreditch to deptford bridge is about £28 in my taxi. But then again, I know how to get there.

There could have been an extra drop offs on the Isle of Dogs and Bow, then once at the Blackwall Tunnel, found it was closed, and had to double back to go through the Rotherhithe Tunnel. We don't know the full facts. We also don't know whether it was UberX, or the most expensive UberLux on surge. |

Actually the fare was on surge - the lightning symbol next to the fare. |

Looking at the receipt, the service, was in fact UberXL - a seven seater vehicle. Therefore, it is likely to be have been more than one drop throughout the journey, hence the route. If it was just the one drop, the driver would have gone through the Rotherhithe Tunnel anyway, and UberX would have been used, rather than UberXL. |
