‘Rude and abusive’ taxi driver suspended AN Aberystwyth taxi driver has been suspended for three months by a council panel after a string of com-plaints about his behaviour.Patrick Nickless, of Dean’s Taxis, was told by Ceredigion council licensing committee that his hackney licence would be renewed. But he was told he would have to serve a three-month suspension to “reflect on previous behaviour and moderate his attitude”.
Allegations made against Mr Nickless, who is the sole proprietor and driver for Dean’s Taxis, included that he had been rude and abusive toward members of the public and had been involved in arguments with other taxi drivers.
A council spokesperson said the suspension started on 3 December and will run until 3 March.Mr Nickless had initially appealed against the council panel’s original suspension decision in July, but that appeal was withdrawn shortly be-fore it was due to be heard by magistrates in Aberystwyth.
The spokesperson said: “The council had received a number of representations in respect of the driver, including allegations that incidents had occurred during which his behaviour and attitude were not of a standard considered either appropriate or acceptable of a licence-holder.
After considering the evidence available and hearing sub-missions from witnesses, the panel was of the opinion that renewal of the application could be granted in principle. However, the panel considered that the actions of the individual were sufficiently serious as to merit a three-month suspension of the licence, allowing him time to reflect on previous behaviour and moderate his attitude.
