Post subject:  E7 or M8 ?

I have an E7, double shifted, 110k on the clock, I'm out of warranty, the M8 Mercedes show is on the 14th, next Wedensday, 3 years unlimited warranty, 4 free services, 3 years breakdown cover, 25% of labour costs, 10% off parts, 30% off oil.

I have a decision to make so I'm asking the TDO troops to help me make up my mind

The e7 has been ok I've not lost many days but it doesn't ware well, the costs outside of warranty are starting to add up, alternator, DPF fluid, the sliding door hinges and screws, door rubbers etc are all showing signs of not lasting, I fear and based on rank opinion the E7 starts its problems from year two.

The question is though, is the M8 the same or does it really offer that better long term quality, is the M8 better all round value than the E7 or is the E7 better value for money, highlighting the difference in price.

Views are always welcome, I know I could make my decision much easier tapping in to the knowledge of those whom I know have just that, the knowledge.

I think most people would go for the merc over the Pug.

I think that the best place to start is the (like for like cost) and then work from there.

Unless you have access to premium contracts, then both are (equal seating permitting)going to generate a similar income.

They are both metal at the end of the day with a basically unknown composition.......so do not necessarily get sucked in by a name. As they say with any product..........you are more often than not.....paying for the name.

Peace of mind is priceless.

I'd go for the merc but with you saying 10% off whats the price going to be? You don't need me to tell you that these garages don't work for nothing.

I am not defending peugeot as they are basically a pile of sh ! te.....having said that, we have had in years gone by, quite a number of them, (5) in total, (3) family (2) work and the engines are the one thing that has been great......it is when the rest of the plastic falls off they are " basically a pile of sh ! te".

Either your mate is very unlucky - or he is not looking after them. Tbh as the Merc is more of a prestige vehicle then I tend to think that owners tend to treat them with more respect, i.e servicing/driving etc, as a peugeot tends to be treated like a work horse.

Thanks for the replies
The new merc is £36.5k add interest I'm looking at over £40k debt, what im hearing is the merc doesn't hold its value say after 3 years, also hearing tyre wear is a nightmare added also the cost of merc parts are more expensive than a pug, the e7 has better luggage space and a spare wheel, the fuel usage is a big advantage, the engine and auto gearbox are also good enough but agree the everything else is a heap of sh-t, I'm thinking I will stick with the pug, unless the pug decides not to stick with me, I'm not even thinking about a TX, too many engines packing in, scary stuff that, I'll just have to up the servicing and maintainance on the pug.

Anyone know if the E7 auto gear box is sealed or can you replace the gear oil :?:

Im inclined to agree the driver of the E7 on his third engine , whatever he drove he would have problems As they say he could F~#K a cannon ball UP
But I also know of other drivers getting less than 100 000 miles before replacing the engine on a E7

My Vito certainly is not treated with Kid glove's the run of the mill Merc spares are priced ok except for prop shafts steering racks I enjoy 20% discount on spares from the local agent :D :D

On my second VITO.

Wouldn't go back to LTI, obviously I can't say much regarding the Peugeot , but they don't look as good build quality as a VITO
