Taxi driver held at knife point in failed road trap robbery A TAXI driver was held at knifepoint in an attempted robbery. The cabbie, a man in his early 60s from West Rainton, was driving along the A1052 near the Floaters Mill pub, Bournmoor, when the driver of a black Renault Clio braked in front of a taxi driver who was in his white Ford Galaxy car. The driver of the Clio, a man of Asian appearance wearing a grey tracksuit top then approached the cab and brandished a knife, demanding the taxi driver hand over his money. The taxi driver reversed and sped to safety, but as he drove off from the scene the other man lashed out with the knife and damaged the bonnet of the Galaxy as it pulled away. The incident happened around 11.10pm on Thursday. Any witnesses should contact Durham Constabulary on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111. http://www.sunderlandecho.com/news/crim ... -1-7058493 |

I always plan an escape route (something I learnt in the army). Never park too close to a car when picking up or dropping off, leave room to get round the car in front at junctions/lights, make sure doors are locked when not loaded, be suspicious if somethings blocking the road, try not to get boxed in so I can't go forwards or reverse, be aware of strange vehicles or people if asked to go down an alleyway/dead end/quiet area to drop off. |
