Nine licensed drivers cautioned by council for offences committed while operating Information released Middlesbrough Council Licensing Committee report relates to cautions issued in 2014 Nine licensed drivers were cautioned by Middlesbrough Council in the last year after being caught committing offences while operating. The drivers were given cautions between January and December last year for offences including operating an unlicensed vehicle and carrying more passengers than allowed, a new report has revealed. Others offences included failing to wear a private hire driver identification badge, parking a private hire vehicle on a hackney carriage stand and failing to activate a meter. Seven of those caught were private hire drivers and the remainder were Hackney carriage workers. The information was released in a report by Middlesbrough Council’s Licensing Committee, which covers taxi licensing legal proceedings. In the same report last year, the council revealed that it fined taxi drivers nearly £5,000 between January and December 2013. Eight taxi drivers were prosecuted and 14 drivers were issued with cautions. Councillor Julia Rostron, the council’s executive member for adult social care and public health, said: “Our main concern at all times is the safety of the public, therefore reminding hackney and private hire drivers of their duties and obligations through the issuing of cautions is in line with the council’s Enforcement Policy. “This ensures that all regulatory action is proportionate and appropriate to the matter under consideration and formal cautions are only issued in clearly defined circumstances and are recorded against the offender. “The public can be reassured that any licensed driver or operator found to be continually committing offences or committing offences of a serious nature will be dealt with in an appropriate manner, be it through prosecution or a referral to the council’s Licensing Committee for a review of their licences.” The nine drivers cautioned in 2014 PRIVATE HIRE DRIVERS Ian Harris Operating an unlicensed vehicle on 10 October 2013 Karzan Muhamed Failing to wear a private hire driver identification badge on 6 March 2014 Sean Crinnion Failing to wear a private hire driver identification badge on 11 April 2014 Lee Keillor Parking a private hire vehicle on a Hackney carriage stand on 12 April 2014 Failing to wear a private hire driver identification badge on 12 September 2014 Ali Navazani Parking a private hire vehicle on a Hackney carriage stand on 21 November 2014 Bilal Razi Failing to wear a private hire driver identification badge on 28 June 2014 Naheem Hussain Failing to wear a private hire driver identification badge on 27 September 2014 HACKNEY CARRIAGE DRIVERS Haroon Aslam Carrying more passengers than allowed by licence on 10 March 2013 Arif Hussain Failing to activate meter on 1 June 2014 http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teess ... il-8622416 |
