Kev, 400 a week? With the costs you will incur as a young driver i would say no. Maybe you could in the odd good week but consistently I think not. 300 you would struggle as well. Christ even 200 may be a struggle. I ain't joking sir. The costs are too high, with less pie for us to eat from. I am still doing this because my costs are manageable. I own my car outright for example. If i was to rent, i would be doing some other job (providing someone would take my sorry behind!!).
How does 70 to 80 hours a week night-shift sound to try and get that cash with the costs you will face? And how about 40 hours and you have just started to cover your taxi costs for the week?
As you know the uk is gubbed at the moment. As a cabbie, you can see it with your own eyes and the sight ain't to pretty. If you can, do something else. If you must, try it for yourself, get your badge for one year and rent a car from a base and see what you can do. At least if what i am saying turns out to be true for you then the cost to you could have been much worse.
I am an old fart compared to you sir, so I am now prepared to sacrifice a social life to bring the coin in. At 22 my mind would have been much different about that side of my life. I know it is hard to get a decent jobs nowadays, but if you can find one where there is good banter to be had (the cash might not be the best) then that is a result I say. Best of luck. It is hard out there. Btw, when is your generation going to start kicking up a storm about the way the economy is? Revolution will only come from you guys.
