Five hurt in Birmingham taxi collision

Driver, three passengers and another motorist injured in accident involving cab and car in Edgbaston

A taxi carrying three passengers was involved in a serious collision with a car in Birmingham.

Five people were injured in total in the crash at the junction of Bristol Road and Priory Road in Edgbaston, at around 8.30pm last night, including the taxi driver and a man driving the other vehicle.

Three ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and a paramedic officer attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find two vehicles that had been in a crash.

“The woman driving the car, believed to be in her early forties, suffered a serious arm injury.

“The man in his sixties driving the taxi suffered a back injury. The three passengers travelling in the taxi all suffered multiple minor injuries.

“All five patients received emergency treatment at the scene before being transferred by ambulances to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Major Trauma Unit in Birmingham for further emergency treatment.

“All emergency service personal worked seamlessly together to ensure the patients were treated as quickly and safely as possible.”
