Minicab Driver Fined For Illegally Picking Up Fares In Tring


An Aylesbury minicab driver has been fined over £1,700, after driving illegally in Tring.

Muhammed Imran, who lives on Queens Park, was found illegally looking for un-booked fares in Akeman Street in the town by undercover police.

Because the 32-year-old had done this, he wasn't insured for the journey either.

All fares accepted by private hire minicab drivers must be pre-booked.

Mr Imran had denied the offence and said there was a booking but this was not accepted by the Magistrates who have ordered him to pay a total of £1,737.50 in fines and costs.

He was also given eight penalty points on his driving licence. As he already had six points on his driving licence, he is now disqualified from driving for six months.

Cllr Neil Harden Portfolio Holder for Residents and Regulatory Services said,

"I welcome this decision which enforces the strong stance taken by Dacorum Borough Council on this issue.

"I believe this conviction and sentence will send out the message that unlawful plying for hire and driving without insurance will not be tolerated in Dacorum. By picking up passengers in this way, the driver's insurance was invalid, posing a risk to his passengers, other road users and the wider public".

Members of the public should make sure they have either pre-booked a minicab or use a Hackney carriage licenced for operation in the district they're in, i.e. Aylesbury Vale.
