Wrexham Taxi Driver Fined for Not Wearing Badge

A Wrexham taxi driver has been fined for failing to wear his identity badge in accordance with his licence.

Wrexham Magistrates issued fines and costs totalling £540 to Michael Ian Hughes of Min yr Aber Bradley.

Mr Hughes was stopped while driving on Smithfield Road by officers who were taking part in a ‘safe taxi’ campaign which was jointly organised between Wrexham Council and North Wales Police.

Officers inspected his vehicle as part of a routine check for safety and to ensure that licence conditions were being adhered to. Mr Hughes was asked to present his identity badge and he was not able to do so.

The case was proven in his absence.

Cllr David A Bithell, lead member for Environment and Public Protection, said: “The result highlights the ongoing work by the Licensing Department and the Police to ensure that anyone carrying out taxi and private hire work must do so within the terms and conditions of the licence. The sentence shows that the courts take the matter very seriously and as a council we will not tolerate those who flout the law.”

All Wrexham Licensed Private Hire and Hackney drivers must display a photographic identity card which should be visible to the customer. The ID badge will show the drivers licence number, expiry date and photograph.

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

I'd call that excessive.
It seems a bit more time than he could have reasonably expected.

The fine would have been less if the lazy tw*t had actually turned up at court and perhaps said 'sorry I made a silly mistake'.

The fine wouldn't have happened if the lazy twit had worn his badge.

Mind you, if he moved to lincoln he would get away with it, no enforcement here, nobody cares.

It would have been a tad more reasonable is he had turned up at court.

I suspect he was also offered resolutions outside of court, but has stuck his head in the sand, as evidenced by his non attendance at court.
