Minicab driver robbed of his car A WIGAN minicab driver was beaten and then robbed of his car by four passengers. The victim was struck over the back of the head and pushed from his vehicle in an incident that police describe as a “very frightening experience.” An appeal for public help in tracking down the gang has been launched by officers with regard to the attack in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The driver had picked up his fare of four men from Scholes precinct at around 1.20am. They had asked him to take them to Broom Road, Worsley Hall, via a bank on Ormskirk Road. Once at the junction of Poplar Avenue and Broom Road the men became aggressive towards the driver and tried to get the keys from him. He then tried to drive off, but only managed to drive a short distance onto Claude Street before being hit on the back of the head. The thugs continued to assault him and pushed him out of the car. One scrambled into the driver’s seat and they drove off onto Larch Avenue. The car, a blue Audi A6, was later found burnt out on Chantry Walk at the back of a convenience store. One of the robbers is described as white with short hair, of slim build, aged between 20 and 30 and was wearing a light coloured up with a bandage on his right arm. He was with three other white men. Det Sgt Steve Baldam, from Wigan police station, said: “It is unclear whether these men called the taxi with the intention of attacking the driver and stealing his car. “This man was simply trying to earn a living when he was subject to an attack and had his livelihood stolen. “His assailants stole his car which was later found burnt out and took his iPhone and £300 in cash. “It was undoubtedly a very frightening experience for him and we need to catch those responsible. “I want to appeal to anyone who might have information about this incident to come forward.” Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 3832 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111. source: http://www.wigantoday.net/news/local/dr ... -1-7142069 |

call me cynical but why is it every time I hear of a taxi driver getting robbed they always seem to be carrying multiple hundreds of pounds in cash? trade must be booming outside of Glasgow |

If you carry a decent float, and mine is made up of £140, then it is feasible that he had over £300 taken. It was not necessarily £300 in takings. |

At the start of every shift my float consists of, 1 X £10.00 2 X £5.00 20 X £1.00 10 X £0.50 10 X £0.20 10 X £0.10 A total of £48.00 and I very rarely run out of notes or pound coins and it is easy to pop home if I do. |

snap very rarely carry over £40 of a float at the start of a shift its not just this guy though, every PH or Taxi driver that gets robbed seems to loose a minimum of a couple of hundred sometimes as much as £500 |

£140 float is a big old one IMO. I suspect I rarely have more than £40 to start with. |

Having said that on Friday night my £1 coins went very fast, on another night that is all you seem to get. I like my float to start with 4x£10 8×£5 40×£1 and £10×50p, the last thing that I want to be doing is losing time looking around for change. |
