Taxi drivers could pass £1 drop off fee to airport passengers Taxi fares for some passengers headed to Aberdeen International Airport could increase by a pound. Following the introduction of a drop off charge at the city’s airport in January, taxi drivers were forced to absorb a £1 fee which allows vehicles to wait for up to ten minutes in the forecourt. But under plans submitted to the council’s Licensing Committee, the surcharge would be passed on to taxi passengers. Council officers reported: "Airport taxis are unaffected but all other taxis are subject to this charge unless invited to use the inner forecourt 5 during times of peak demand. "As this is on private land the local authority has no control over this charge. The trade are requesting that this charge is passed onto the customer and this can only be done by way of adding a surcharge to the tariff." Councillors have been asked to back the plans back the by council officers at the meeting on Tuesday. The report also states that passengers who do not want to pay the £1 surcharge have the option of being dropped off at the airport’s long stay car park, travelling onwards to the terminal via the airport’s shuttle bus. A recent discussion held by The Taxi Consultation Group highlighted that trips to the airport during peak times can take up to two hours, which impacts on customer service. Unite the Union, who highlighted the issue, added that journeys usually take 30 minutes outwith these times. The £1 drop off charge was introduced on January 7 in response to ‘safety concerns’ over congestion at the airport. At least they tried a better excuse at East Midlands. Apparently the charge is used to subsidise the apron fees for the airlines and this saving is passed on to passengers in lower air fares.

Aberdeen cabbies set to pass on £1 airport drop-off charge to passengers TAXI passengers face paying an extra £1 to be dropped off at Aberdeen International Airport. Aberdeen City Council’s licensing committee has unanimously agreed to allow taxi drivers to pass on the surcharge to customers. Airport bosses introduced the controversial £1 charge in January to ease congestion and improve safety. The fee allows cars on to the forecourt for 10 minutes, with a barrier set up for motorists to pay upon exit. However, the move prompted an angry backlash from non-airport cabbies who had to pay the fee out of their own pockets. Not if they phone for a cab, its then classed as a PH, even though the meter is on, you just tell the punter on the phone. |

Meter must be used in conjunction with tariff card for all hires beginning and ending within the licensed area by all taxis and meter equipped PH. In Aberdeen, all PH are meter equipped, set to same rate as taxis by ACC. |

I have a car park pass that lets me park in the multi storey for 3 hours at a cost of £1.50 (at the moment) You just need to tyake your council license to the portacabin in the drop and go to get one. |
