Minicab driver arrested for alleged sexual assault of 17yr old passenger

A MINICAB driver has been arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old passenger — while working for a firm that was operating illegally at the time.

Police investigating the incident confirmed that they had arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of sexual assault last Sunday, before bailing him “pending further enquiries”.

Council officials also revoked the private hire cabbie’s licence following the incident.

The Advertiser understands that the teenage girl had been left in the minicab alone with the driver after her friend was dropped off at home when the alleged incident occurred.

The sexual assault suspect’s employer, Venture Minicabs, of Station Road, Wath, removed all signage from the firm’s Wath base, meanwhile, after it emerged that the firm had been trading without an operator’s licence for around a fortnight.

Staff remained on site, however, and its vehicles and drivers were continuing to trade under the name of Venture’s sister company, Masbrough-based Martini Minicabs.

A spokesman for Martini Minicabs, who refused to give his name, confirmed that the operator’s licence of its “satellite business” had lapsed.

He said: “My brother, who runs the business, forgot to renew the business’ licence. That’s all there is to it.

“This has nothing to do with a sexual assault.”

A spokesman for the borough council reiterated that the reason for the closure of the firm in question, Venture Minicabs, was not down to the alleged criminality of the driver.

He added: “Whilst the authority suspended the driver immediately following a briefing from South Yorkshire Police on their investigation and actions, Venture was closed down because it was found to be trading illegally as it did not have a licence to operate.

“It was discovered that the owner/operator of Venture — who is also the named operator for Martini Minicabs — failed in his legal duty to renew his licence for Venture and so cannot operate that firm as a Private Hire business.”

The spokesman added: “Drivers of Private Hire Vehicles can only receive their work from pre-bookings and the operator has enabled the drivers' businesses to continue by allowing the ex-Venture cars onto the Martini books.

"This is completely legal but due to the failure of the operator to operate Venture without a licence, the Council is to review his role as to whether he is 'fit and proper' to run the Martini operation."

No fella that's not all there is to it.

You brother is now a criminal, as are his drivers.

UPDATE: Minicab driver arrested for alleged sex attack on teenage passenger

POLICE have yet to charge a minicab driver arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old female passenger.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed this morning (12) that the 21-year-old remained on bail following the alleged incident on February 1.

The alleged offence happened in a taxi being operated by Venture Taxis, of Wath.

It later emerged that the firm — now running minicabs re-badged under the name of sister firm Martini Taxis, of Masbrough — had been operating illegally after its licence lapsed.

A spokeswoman for Rotherham Borough Council revealed that an investigation is now underway to establish whether the firms’ owner is “fit and proper to run the Martini operation.”

Minicab driver in sexual assault arrest is released

A MINICAB driver who was arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old passenger has been released without charge.

Police revealed that proceedings against the man, released on bail following his arrest on February 1, had been brought to a close as there “was not a realistic prospect of conviction”.

The 21-year-old private hire driver was questioned by police following the incident which allegedly occurred when the teenager was left alone with him after her friend was dropped off at home.

It also emerged that the minicab firm that the driver had been working for — Venture Minicabs, of Station Road, Wath — had been trading without an operators’ licence.

Rotherham Borough Council forced Venture Minicabs to stop trading but South Yorkshire Police this week revealed that the accused driver had been released without charge after weeks of investigation.

A police spokeswoman said: “In consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, it was determined that there was not a realistic prospect of conviction against a 21-year-old man arrested on suspicion of sexual assault in Rotherham.

“He has therefore been released without charge.”

Venture Minicabs ceased to trade last month but its drivers are now employed by the firm’s sister company, Martini Minicabs of Masbrough, who share the same owner.

Speaking shortly after the closure of Venture, a spokeswoman for the borough council said: “This is completely legal but due to the failure of the operator to operate Venture without a licence, the Council is to review his role as to whether he is 'fit and proper' to run the Martini operation.”

I have noticed that more and more LA's do that.

One good thing in the Law Commission was the "Open and transparent" that they want.

If the LC's document ever sees the light of day.

Getting back to part 2 - some of the things appear to be matters such as vehicle age extentions

PC who "filmed doggers from police helicopter" is sacked

A ROTHERHAM police officer suspended over claims he filmed people having sex at South Yorkshire dogging spots from the force’s helicopter (pictured) has been sacked.

PC Adrian Pogmore (48), was dismissed following a disciplinary hearing on Friday.

A police spokeswoman said: “Following a gross misconduct investigation an officer appeared before a Special Case Hearing with the Chief Constable and was dismissed without notice.”

The 48-year-old officer was suspended in December over “unauthorised use of force visual recording equipment”, South Yorkshire Police confirmed last month.

A took place of his Rotherham home following the allegations but police said no footage was found.

A spokeswoman said a second officer in the helicopter at the time — who is employed by the National Police Air Service (NPAS) — was also investigated but “no misconduct was identified”.

I personally believe the major question in respect of everything should be......Did South Yorkshire Police have a policy of deliberately employing mongs.
